Baobab Tree: The baobab tree has learned to only grows leaves during the wet season because animals need food the most during the dry season. It has a large trunk and little leaves allowing it to limit water loss and survive during the dry season.

Jackalberry tree: These trees are found throughout the African savanna. The provide fruit that feeds several animals in the savanna including the impala. Jackalberry trees have a very unique relationship with ants. Jackalberry trees grow by ant mounds so that the ants can aerate the soil and help the tree to grow better and healthier.

Elephant grass: Several trees are in the savanna, but primarily it is grasses. One of the main grasses in this area is elephant grass. Elephant grass grows in huge clumps and can grow to be almost 10 feet tall. The grass thrives along the northern and southern parts of the savanna where water is more plentiful.

Bermuda grass: bermuda grass is one of the toughest grasses in the world! It can survive any harsh climates. even when there is little rain, it is able to survive and thrive.

Acacia Tree: The acacia tree is one of the most deadly trees in the savanna. The tree has thorns at the top that keeps animals from eating all of its leaves. The tree produces alkaloid, a poisonous substance that goes into the leaves. when animals try to eat the leaves, they immediately spit it out seeing that the leaves are inedible. It has long roots that allows it to get water from deep below the ground.
